Join me on YouTube for deep dives into true crime cases that are about religion, beginning with several that involve my faith, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
The Chad Daybell Case
I followed the trial of convicted murderer Chad Daybell from jury selection through sentencing, plus background on him before that.
It’s a horrifying and heart-rending case made all the stranger by the fact that he was once in my community of Utah and Latter-day Saint writers, and I had friends who published with him.
For those asking, YES, I’ll be covering Lori’s Arizona trial as well.
Joyce McKinney and the Case of the Manacled Mormon: Playlist
This wild case is mostly from the 1970s, but just when you think it’s over, it’s not.
Joyce McKinney converted to the LDS faith, attended BYU in Provo for grad school, and at 25, became obsessed with a 19-year-old kid about to go on a mission.
Breaking up with her didn’t work. Stalking turned into hiring private investigators and ultimately to a trip to England, where she kidnapped, shackled, and assaulted him for days.
But again, the story didn’t end there!
Ruby Franke and Jodi Hildebrandt
Thanks to the heroic actions of a twelve-year-old boy, he and his little sister are still alive . . . despite the horrors they endured at the hands of their mother and business partner and therapist (and I use that last term loosely).
Get the highlights (lowlights!) from Ruby’s own journal, a former friend speaking speaking out to set the record straight, and more.
Make it stand out.
